- The Grünloch-Experiment (Lunz am See, Austria)
- Meteorological Field Campaign about temperature inversions in Alpine basins
March 29, Steinbach (Valley SW of
Gruenloch) At this trip we planned to download as much Hobos as possible and to have a look to the snow-situation at Gruenloch.
We had very warm weather with Temperatures
of +5°C at 850hPa (1500m).
At 1000 msl we put on our snowshoes.
The steep way up. The wet, heavy snow made
it sometimes difficult to climb up on such steep slopes.
Maybe at this picture you can imagine how
steep are some slopes. In case of danger of avalanches it is nearly
impossible to cross such slopes (it would be suicide).
The problem of Mt. Dürrenstein is, that (like at all Austrian limestone plateaus) all descents are very steep until you rech the more flat plateau.
Beautyful weather! Bernhard is going along
the ridge to the plateau of Dürrensteinalm.
At the plateau you'll find a lot of old,
dense pine forests.
A valley close to Ybbstalerhuette.
After 4 hours we saw Ybbstalerhuette -
time for lunch.
After lunch we prepared everything for
Gruenloch.
